It's a pity that Prey (2022) went directly to streaming, since it's a genuine movie that needs to be seen in theaters. It's a lot of fun to watch it with the American Indian dub. This is a far cry from the unsettling sensations of the original work and John McTiernan's classic flourish, but director Trachtenberg is eager to show off with a smorgasbord of modern (just updated) visual ideas and solid action choreography, and it fits perfectly with the survivalist sensibility of the first movie. It's full of evocative visuals of forest vistas, and the soundtrack and sound design also add to the immersion. Naru, played by Amber Midthunder, leads the movie with an often wordless lead performance. Her reactions and quick movements define the film's speed and rhythms, leading up to a devastating third act finale. So harsh and gnarly.
